Wake Me, Shake Me - by the Myddle Class. I grew up in New Jersey, and this song was the big hit from THE local band. It's been since 1965 or so - roughly 40 years, so my memory is a little fuzzy on the details. But after all these years, I still remembered this song. You know, you get a tune in your head, and it's like an itch that you need to scratch. Special thanks to Chris Bishop and Jim Witty for helping me track [no pun intended] down this song.

Not Just a Game

It is now Sunday (game day) morning, 7:15 am.

I spent some time last night hunting down other people's picks. The one that looked the most interesting was Not Just a Game. He claims to be 11-4 during week 1 (or 10-5 if you want to get technical). I did not verify that his picks were posted before the games were played - but all things considered - I tend to accept it at face value. There are some other posts - a few essays on fantasy and about basic strategy against the spread - I give this site credit for high quality content, and also I like the presentation (of the writer). I'm not so high on the blog publisher - he would do better (IMHO) if he changed to Blogger or WordPress. To be fair - the best way to read this site is to subscribe to his RSS feed - which I do on Pluck. The feed looks good - and then the ads and the clunky site host are not a factor. Drupal is not needed here.

My theory - anybody can get lucky once - but if you can do it twice in a row, it's not luck. He had a good week, lets see how he does in week 2. The complete list of his week 2 picks are here.

This info was first posted on another blog. That blog is now dead, so I am re-posting and with a little luck, this blog will continue to the rest of this season (at least), or until I run out of pretend money, or until I lose interest.

Week 2 Picks

Comments - In the first week, everyone is making decisions based on little or no information - or to say it another way - on bad information.

In week 2, we now have 1 week of good information, and everyone over-reacts. Yes Oakland looked bad, and Baltimore looked good. Baltimore beat an NFC team, and Oakland lost to a good AFC team. I agree Baltimore is the favorite, but 11.5 points is a lot of points. Both these teams will drift toward the center - Oakland is not that bad, and Baltimore is not that good.

Cleveland / Cincy - these 2 rivals play close games. 10.5 is a lot of points.

Carolina is a very good team, and Minny is a very bad team.

St Louis showed they are the real deal, and San Francisco is rated at or near the bottom of the NFL until they prove otherwise. Some teams play down to the level of the opponent, but not St Louis.

Dallas is not that great - but I have Washington at the bottom of the NFL until they prove otherwise.

This is the first post of my new NFL picks blog. I started a blog last night, and now due to technical difficulties, cannot access that blog. It is/was called NFL Against the Spread. So that is going to fade away because I can't log into it.
